About Us – How Happy K9 Services Was Born

We are so glad that you have decided to see what Happy K9 Services is all about. The idea has been over 13 years in the making, even though we did not know it then.

When we first moved to East Northport we used to watch a friends 2 Shar Pei’s on a very regular basis. She left them with us because they got along great with our dogs and we treated them like they were ours.

Here are some pictures of our original Pack including the 2 we watched (We still consider them part of the family)

Everyone got a long great but sadly these pictures are old and everyo

ne pictured is no longer with us. Sheeba the Shepard Lab mix was the one that inspired me to start with training dogs. It was more out of necessity because she was abandoned in a Pet store parking lot in her crate. She had some food aggression and other issues that absolutely needed to be fixed. We did not have the money for a trainer at the time so I asked a lot of questions and did a lot of research and was able to train her out of all her issues. We got her while my wife was pregnant and once our daughter was born she quickly became her dog!

Since I was already working with Sheeba I did a few things with the other dogs as well. I never Thought it was a big deal doing what I did until others saw the change as well as how my dogs started to act.

Fast forward to Forward to 2016. 2 of the last 3 from the original pack passed away within 10 days of each other. We were down to 1 dog and the house just seemed empty. We then decided to foster Duncan, a very large German Sort haired Pointer. He came with some issues as well being a rescue but we knew he was here to stay. We officially adopted him a couple of months later and that was the beginning of our current pack. 6 months later we adopted Jingles at 9 weeks old followed by Xena who we got a year after that.

Just recently we also have taken in as a foster, Sweetness. She is an 11 year old Boxer who just needs a place to live out her life happily. She has been through a lot but, in true Boxer spirit, she still acts like a puppy.

Because we almost always have someone home we decided we should open our home to other dogs who needed a place to stay while their families were away. Instead of being cooped up with limited play time and attention our visitors become part of the family. When a dog stays with us they play with our dogs, have full run of the back yard and downstairs portion of the house, sit with us on the couch or chairs and get a lot of love.

With the dog sitting part came dog walking and of course dog training. We work with dogs of all sizes and have no problem taking on some of the bigger dogs that many others will not. Every pup we work with whether it be sitting , training or walking becomes an extended part of our pack and holds a small piece of our heart. We hope you will consider letting your fur baby become a part of our Happy K9 family as well!
